Letter to Younger Brother Advising Him to Give Up Smoking

Examination Hall,
A. B. C. (City).
March 4, 2014.

My dear Brother,

I am hale and hearty here with the grace of Almighty Allah and hope that this letter of mine will find you in the best of your health and spirits. I am outrageously traumatized to read the letter from your Principal that you have fallen prey to bad company and developed the noxious habit of Smoking. This nasty news has made my blood boil. Being your elder brother, it is my right as well as duty to advise and guide you onto the right path.

Brother, get out of this malignant habit instantly if you have acquired it. You might not have adopted it fully yet. You κηow, old habits die hard. Therefore, you must nip it in the bud. If you let it clutch you in its iron claws, you will become just a helpless invalid.

Brother, you must know that Smoking causes many fatal diseases. Nearly ninety percent of ling cancer deaths are caused by smoking. Smoking increases the risk of cancer of larynx, oral cavity, esophagus, bladder, kidney and pancreas. Sticky brown tar leaves yellow stains on fingers and teeth. Nicotine causes arteries to constrict and this reduces blood flow. Carbon monoxide deprives the body of oxygen. I hope that you would genuinely try to abandon such anarmful habit.

Dear brother, these bad habits are a result of bad company. Most of the persons in the world are fair weather friends. They flatter in prosperity and desert in adversity. You would have heard the saying:
"So long as you have money, there is no death of friends."
Bad associates are more dangerous than a snake and more poisonous than a scorpion. Therefore, I advise you to shun the company of such bad and harmful persons and select cultured, studious and hardworking college mates as your companions.

My dear, youth is the seedtime of life when we can lay the foundations of good or bad career and make or mar our lives. If you miss the opportunity, you are bound to repent throughout the whole life. Time once gone cannot be recalled. I know you are a sober and serious person. Anyone can be tempted to such sugar-coated evils. But, be sure, it is easier to take up bad habits and join bad company than to get rid off them. You are at the very initial of these bad habits and can get rid of them easily.

Moreover, I have been apprised of your listless attitudet wards your studies. Your result of December test is not quite pleasing. You have failed in Chemistry and Biology. Even the result of Urdu is not somehow satisfactory rather poor and you are not in teacher's good books. Negligence is such a Curse as renders man good for nothing. It undermines man's character and ruins his career. But, be sure, it is never too late to mend. You should pay meticulous heed Y to your academic work. You must keep in view Bacon's illustrious line that:
"Studies serve for delight, for ornament and for ability."
Brother, you know that we belong to a family with meager income resources. Our father works his fingers to the bone to shape a promising future for us. Therefore, we should also make enormous efforts to realize his dreams. You should avoid such pastimes as may mar your vigor and distract you from your prime objectives.

l, therefore, exhort you to pay full attention to your studies. Do not wander here and there. Try to be assiduous, diligent and punctual. Chalk out a timetable and work accordingly. Give up all such company as is harmful to you and your Studies. If you want to succeed, γου should live away from the black sheep. Pay maximum regards you your teachers. Their blessings will always be with you. Keep in mind that if you don't mend your ways, you can be removed from the college even.

I hope, you would follow my virtually valuable advice. You would make every endeavor to abandon your ailing activities and pernicious pursuits. I will visit you shortly to see whether you have taken my advice or not. May you explore every avenue to be successful and prosperous in life!
With love and best wishes
Yours affectionately,
X.Y.Z
