The relationships between India and Pakistan have always been a matter of great Concern in South-East Asia. Since the emergence of these states, the relationships between the two have never been friendly. The present-day situatioñ is getting worse day by day. There are many factors responsible for this alarming situation.
The outside world is very rightly scared of the unfriendly relations between India and Pakistan. Any violent conflict between them can now result in massive destruction. It is so because both the countries are now fully equipped to fight any type of battle. India has powerful ballistic missiles like "Agony". Pakistan has "Shaheen", "Ghouri" and "Hataf" missiles. The missiles of both countries can carry nuclear material and can reach their targets at a very fast speed, in this way, both the countries have the capability to destroy each other within no time. This situation is more dangerous than ever.
This situation can be eased up if the leaders of both the countries behave in a sensible way. They must realize that both the countries have atomic weapons of war. in case of war, both will use them. This act will cause destruction at a mass level. Moreover, this tense relationship has given the people poverty and economic problems.
From 1947 till the present day, four major wars have been fought between these two nations but the major issues still remain unresolved. Neither wars nor talks could so far settle the Kashmir dispute or the Siachen problem or Sir Creek confrontation. During the past years, different rounds of dialogues were held. Every time it was claimed that both the countries were heading towards great reconciliation, but every time the results were disappointing.
Various rounds of dialogues are still going on. But still there is no light visible or the horizon. The main cause of this deadlock is that the Pakistani delegates stress on the basic issues while the Indian officials want to establish commercial and Cultural relations with Pakistan without settling the main disputes. Anyhow, the Current series of dialogues has slightly eased up the situation and there is no imminent danger of war, though the interaction between the two governments is still not very cordial.
Anyhow, the people of both the countries have now started realizing that this tense situation is damaging their economic position. So they want to establish friendly relationships between them. This is why attempts are being made from both sides to strengthen Cultural and economic relations. They are having trade together. It is a positive sign that the people of these countries want to end up old enmity and want to resolve their disputes in a friendly style.
The exchange of visits between the people of these countries is also a step towards promoting friendship. It is definitely easing up the tension. Cultural relations are also improving. Artists, players, poets and journalists of one country now love to perform in the other. So they are paying regular visits. This sort of activity has proved successful in bringing the people close together.
Now the common people of one country can go and see their relatives and friends in the other country. These visits have become so frequent that the people have started demanding to set up consulates so that delays should be avoided. The opening of an Indian consulate in Karachi and a Pakistani consulate in Mumbai will be a great step towards bringing the people closer. This Cordiality will promote the idea of peaceful co-existence.
We should now follow the policy of "Live and let others live". Both the countries should respect each other's rights. This is the only option left to us. In this way, both the Countries will be able to spend a major portion of their budgets on the Welfare of the poor people.
