No Pains, No Gains is an oft-quoted proverb. I means if you want God's help, you must make an effort yourself. In the battlefield, his forces fought fiercely and fearlessly but luck still did not favour them and their war strategy proved to be a total failure.
He was so badly defeated that many of his men were killed and others deserted him in his hardship. He was forced to flee from the battlefield to save his life. He took refuge in the little island of Rathlin on the coast of Antrim (Now in Northern Ireland). There he saw a cave Covered from all sides with the thick foliage of the branches hanging downwards. Thinking it a safe place from the blood thirsty soldiers of the British army, he crept into the cave and hid himself there. He was deeply depressed and dejected at the disgraceful downfall. He was so frustrated and disappointed by his comrades that he decided to forsake his fruitless fight for freedom. He began to ponder over his flaws and foibles that had resulted in such a rueful rout. Lost in his melancholic meditation, he lay down on the stiff surface. His stony eyes began to stare in space.
Eventually he caught sight of a. spider Swinging and swaying from the ceiling. It was striving to spin its web. In tough tremendous toil, it tumbled down. But this could not damp down the spider's determination. It climbed up the wall with a renewed resolve. it immediately attracted the attention of the king. The spider reached its cobweb and began to spin it again. Then it slipped again and began to swing with a flimsy filament. Finally it fell down. It again began to crawl up towards the ceiling but it fell down again. But his could not stifle its superior stamina.

This event served as a strong stimulus. This action of tiny insect encouraged the king for a bold step. Fury and frenzy inflamed the king's favour. Immense enthusiasm invigorated him. A new hope kindled his heart. He said to himself,
"Look! how brave this tiny creature is. Am I worse than the poor spider even? It tried ten times and reached its destination. If a small creature like spider can succeed in its aim by not losing heart but making constant struggle, why should I be disappointed?"Thinking this, he took heart. He raised the standard again, rallied his scattered army and attacked the enemy with the renewed vigour and strong determination. Ultimately, he inflicted a devastating defeat on his enemy and won freedom for his nation by driving the British out of his country. We learn a lesson from this story that we gain nothing if we make no effort, if once we fail, we should not lose heart but try again because failure leads to Success.
