Sweet memories are like the sweet flowers. They become a constant source of happiness and glee in the depressing drama of the life. The sweet memories of my first day at college are the assets of my life. These memories will haunt me forever.

College is place where a person gets a chance to build his character and future. College is the only place which aims at the moral development of a person. It promises a bright future of a nation by generating civilized and responsible citizens. School is a place where we are taught how to think but college is complete new world which tells us how other people think.

I passed S.S. C part II examination in 'A' Grade and thought of getting admission in college. I applied for admission in Govt. Degree College. After a few days list of successful candidates who were selected. I was allotted Roll number and I was proud of being college student.

It was a beautiful day with a light rain shower when i was on my way to a new world of freedom and learning. I reached the main gate of the college and saw some students stampeding outside. They were in a terrible state. I managed to talk one of them. They told me that the senior students had played tricks on them. I was very confused and nervous but I muster up my courage and entered the gate. These words echoed in my mind.

"We are not here to play, to dream, to drift. We have hard work to do and loads to lift."

I found myself among the smart and active boys. They were senior students. But instead of teasing the new students, they guide them to their respective sections and classes. I felt highly obliged to them for their act of kindness and affection.

Our first period was to take place in Room No.5. I could not find my classroom. I saw some students standing at the corner. I went to them and asked them about the way. One of them smiled and gave me directions. There was something in the eyes of others which I could not understand. I followed the instruction and started walking.

When I opened the door, I heard a roar of laughter behind me. I had entered the toilets. I turned quickly and closed the door. The senior students had played a trick to me. Somehow I found my way through the maze and entered the classroom. Our first period was of English. The lecturer of English came in and began to call over the roll number. It was quite amusing to hear the boys responding to their roll numbers in different ways. After roll call the lecturer spoke about the rules, regulations and environment of the college. He advises us to maintain discipline in college. He advises us

After it he told us about the course scheme of English. After the period of English there was period of chemistry, the lecturer of chemistry also spoke about the discipline and other things like attendance etc. I was very tired but I was really enjoying my classes. I knew

Consulting my day's routine I found that the next period was an off-period. This gave me a chance to make a tour round the college premises. I noted with a sense of relief that I would no longer be confined to the same room for hours together as I used to be at schoOl.

I went to College Common Room. It was a big hall with plenty of noise. There were provisions for table-tennis and carom boards. There were newspapers and periodicals. On the first day, l was of course a mere spectator. The senior students were there, playing games, reading newspapers or discussing things. It was a complete new world in itself. I realized that

"Life in a college is more fun than a serious effort to get education."

Then I left for the library. It was a place of attraction. There were shelves containing books. The room was full of students who were absorbed in reading or writing. I also sat there for some time and enjoyed reading a book. I admitted

Then I went to my classroom and attended all the remaining periods whole heartedly. It was new world of learning and liberty. When I was on my way to the home, the rain started suddenly. A speeding car passed by and drenched me in the mud My beautiful dress had changed into a my memory. It is muddy dress. But my first day at college fresh in unforgettable days of my life. I must say that memories are one of the way to lead life and it is well said "Memory is treasury and guardian of all the making habits for things."

In fact college is the only place for learning. And someone wants to learn, he should be admitted to the college and if someone wants to be happy, he should remember the days passed in the college because the memories of the college life glow like a lighthouse in his whole life
