Letter to Mother Telling Her Why You Like the Hostel Life

Examination Hall,
A. B. C. (City).
March 13, 2014.

My dear Mother,

I am hale and hearty here with the grace of Almighty Allah and I hope receipt of your letter. No doubt, letters of parents for children living away from home are no less than bounteous boons. In your letter, you have asked me to leave the hostel and shift to a private accommodation. Dear mother, I shall certainly obey you in every matter. But may I explain my point of view about hostel life.

Mother, it is really a new experience for me to live among so many students. It is indeed a great feeling of fun and joy. Hostel life has a charm of its own. You may come out of the familiar surrounding of your dear ones and enter a new world of strangers who are experiencing the same dilemmas as you. However, some basic etiquette can make the hostel life a memorable experience. Most of the first time hostlers tend to become homesick in the initial weeks. had similar feelings when I first joined the hostel last month.

I was much disturbed. The environment was too noisy. I just wanted to leave the hostel. But gradually began settling down. Thank God, all my roommates are very friendly. They are gentle and hardworking boys. They belong to noble families. We discuss academic problems and help one another. We all are about the same age. We study together, we play together and we pray together. The discipline in the hostel is wonderful. Our superintendent is a man of principles. He never tolerates any kind of indiscipline. He keeps the close watch on every student. The calm and peaceful environment of the hostel is very suitable for study.

Mother, the cleanliness is wonderful here. The timings and the standard of food are remarkably good, consisting of two well Cooked vegetables, curd and salad with tawa chapattis, rice and a Sweet dish. Breakfast is served at 8 am. We take lunch at 12pm and the dinner is served from 7pm to 9pm.

The rules about the study hours are strict. No student can make a noise during this period. There is a library in the hostel. Keeping aside the learning, fun is in the abundance in the hostel. Most of us led a restricted life at home. At the hostel, we have a newfound freedom. Late night movies, picnics and nightlong gossip has become a part of our life. But all the fun is not at the cost of studies. There are different co-curricular activities, such as sports, Competitions debates and quiz competitions. All these features help us to learn different things.

Mother, now I am getting familiar with many students, There is an atmosphere of competition in studies here. The students also help each other in solving their problems. A doctor is there to provide medical facilities to the students. For these reasons, I believe that the merits of the hostel life are many more than demerits. In short, I am really enjoying my stay here. You need not worry about meat all. I will be grateful if you kindly allow me to stay in the hostel.
Pay my salaam to Father and Sister.
Yours affectionately,
X. Y. Z.
