A Thirsty Crow
Morality and wisdom are as old as human history. In order to teach young learners wisdom and morality many fables were written long ago in the past. These fables have been passing down from one generation to another. One such story is about a thirsty crow which quenched his thirst by a brain wave. The story teaches us that need is a great teacher and behind every new discovery and development is hidden the element of need. Need devises the ways of its satisfaction.Once upon a time a crow was very thirsty. The day was very hot. The crow flew here and there in search of water but he found water nowhere. He was about to faint when he saw a pitcher under a shady tree.
“The pitcher will surely be full of water”thought the crow and he flew down towards the pitcher. “O, my God! Water is very low in the pitcher and my beak cannot reach it”, cried the crow when it saw into the pitcher after landing on the brink of the pitcher.
For some seconds he could not think anything. He sat there paralyzed with horror and weakness. He said to himself’ “What can I do now?” He looked around in dismay. When he was scanning the surroundings, his eyes fell on a pile of little stones nearby.
“If I drop stones into the pitcher, the water may rise up”, thought the crow. He started bringing little stones one by one in his beak and started throwing stones into the pitcher. “It is coming up”, shouted the crow after he had thrown some stones into the pitcher.
He continued throwing stones into the pitchers and the water kept rising. Finally it rose high enough that the beak of the crow could reach it easily. The crow drank water to his fill and flew away happily.
This story teaches us that necessity is the mother of invention which means that problems force brains to think solutions.
Moral: Necessity is the mother of invention.
