      • The poet reflects on mystic experience. He shares example of a saint, Mansoor, who claimed that he was god. May be he became so engrossed in God's love that he forgot that a man cannot be God.

The poet believes that one can know God only if he knows his own self. In order to be closer to God, it is essential that he should know his own self.

The theme of the poem "He Came to Know Himself" is love of God. It has been elaborated with reference to a mystic experience of a saint, Mansoor. The saint was in deep love with God. His experience of love was so intimate and unusual that he even went to say "I am god". This statement was in conflict with the teachings of Islam. Mansur was, therefore, Sentenced to death. This controversy apart, the real message of the poem is immense love for the Creator. The poet believes that a true lover of God sees nothing except God. Like Mansur Hallaj, he is willing to sacrifice his own life for the sake of God's love. He does not mind even if he is humiliated like Hazarat Yusuf (A.S) who was cheaply sold as a slave. The poet believes that only by leving God you will know Him; and if you know Him, you will know yourself.

Who treated the bazaars of Egypt?

This is a reference to Prophet Joseph (A.S). He was cheaply sold as a slave in Egypt.
